One of the first applications of Bioenergy Ribose supplementation was for heart health. All of our early research, which led to our original patent, was done on heart tissue. Our passion for heart health has never waned, even as BLS moved into studying d-ribose for other areas including exercise and performance.
Now there is compelling research showing that d-ribose and ubiquinol may potentially be useful in helping to manage heart failure. This is significant because approximately 6.5 million Americans have heart failure, a number projected to increase by 8 million by 2030.
New science for heart health supplement formulas
About half of heart failure patients have preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). When the heart begins to lose its capacity to conduct electricity, cells in the heart begin to die. That reduces the ejection fraction. Mitochondrial dysfunction appears to play a significant role in this process.
A new paper published in The Annals of Medicine and Surgery Journal (Lond) reviews the role of mitochondrial metabolism as it may relate to HFpEF pathophysiology, and the potential mechanisms by which ubiquinol and d-ribose may reduce the risk of diastolic heart failure by supporting mitochondrial health.
This news, also referenced in the November issue of Nutritional Outlook, is significant to the heart health category at a time when interest in conservative approaches to managing heart health is building. While BLS was not connected with this study, we were very pleased to learn about its results, which appear to validate our more than 35 years of research connecting D-Ribose with heart health.
In addition to its ubiquinol synergies with respect to ATP production, d-ribose supports the pliability of the aortic tunnel, helping it to relax after the heart pulses which provides for greater ejection fraction.
Bioenergy Ribose makes other ingredients work better
D-ribose has a short 20-minute half life, so it absorbs faster than ubiquinol, which has a 6.5 hour half life. Ribose doesn’t get enough credit for combining with and optimizing the absorption and utilization of other ingredients in your formulation. In other words, ribose makes whatever you put with it work better whether that’s CoQ10, vitamin D3 or another nutrient.
In addition to ATP generation, both Bioenergy Ribose and ubiquinol fit well with the plant-forward movement. For those seeking to make up for nutrient losses stemming from avoiding red meat, d-ribose enhances aromatic amino acid generation while CoQ10 is a vitamin. Plus, ribose is absorbed 40 times faster than glucose, so the body needs significantly less ribose than any other carbohydrate to get the energy benefits. This can translate into a lower caloric impact.
Bioenergy Ribose remains the only patented and FDA GRAS-certified d-ribose. When you want to formulate with our industry-leading ingredient backed by a wealth of scientific research and supported by an exceptional team, BLS is ready to become your Total Solutions Provider.
